WILL I EVER GET CREDIT AGAIN?
YES YOU CAN ABSOLUTELY GET CREDIT AGAIN AFTER YOU FILE A BANKRUPTCY!!!
While a bankruptcy is on your credit report for 10 years that does not mean you will never get credit again.
Many debtors are able to reestablish credit again after they receive their discharge for the following reasons:
- After you file a Chapter 7 and receive your discharge you will not owe anyone any money (with the exception of the few debts that are determined to be non-dischargeable, if any) meaning you have income at your disposal;
- Creditors can charge you a higher interest rate because you filed a bankruptcy; and
- Creditors know that you cannot file for at least 8 years (for bankruptcies filed after October 17, 2005) after you have received a discharge and therefore, if you do not pay they can start collection activities for the debts accrued after your discharge date.
We recommend that you apply for a secured credit card soon after your Bankruptcy case is over. This will help you
to rebuild your credit and help control spending so that you do not end up with the same problem in the future.
